Environmental responsibility is becoming more important in everyday life and in the workplace. Through these internships, you will gain valuable skills that support your degree, career plans and life goals.

This is a paid opportunity that helps you grow both personally and professionally. You will gain real work experience while strengthening your resume, no matter your major. All positions report to CCC’s Environmental Sustainability Director.

Paid Internship Responsibilities

Position Summary

As a Sustainability Intern, you will help promote and support sustainability efforts on your campus. You will share information with students and staff and help educate others about sustainability.

Your work includes gardening and weekly composting. You will help plan and promote sustainability events, including CCC’s Earth Month activities. You will also promote the Students 4 Sustainability club and teach students and employees about everyday sustainability topics.

You will report directly to the Environmental Sustainability Director.

Time Requirement and Location

  • You will work 10 – 28 hours per week on your home campus.
  • You must be able to work for at least two consecutive semesters.
  • You may work in this role for up to three years while you are a CCC student. After one full year of student employment, you may continue working as a non-student employee.

Pay

$15 per hour

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must:

  • Be a current CCC student
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Be reliable, punctual, polite and professional
  • Be willing to work with food waste and compost
  • Be comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google tools, web tools and email
  • Pay close attention to detail and stay organized
  • Follow through on tasks and projects

You should also be:

  • Committed to CCC’s environmental sustainability goals
  • Interested in learning more about sustainability
  • Motivated to grow personally and professionally
  • Willing to build skills in communication, technology, organization and project management
  • Comfortable asking questions and receiving constructive feedback

Sustainability Interns are eligible to earn all four e-Badges provided by the Environmental Sustainability Office.

An e-Badge is a digital award you can share with employers, include on your resume and post on social media. Earned e-Badges also appear on your CCC co-curricular transcript.

Through these e-Badges, you will gain knowledge and skills in environmental stewardship that apply to your field of study and your everyday life.

Description

Work-study positions are available with the Environmental Sustainability Office at most CCC campuses.

To see what positions are open, talk with your campus Financial Aid Office. They can provide a current list of opportunities.

As a work-study student, you will support the daily operations of CCC’s Environmental Sustainability Office. You will help research, plan, organize, manage, communicate or carry out sustainability projects across the college.

Your tasks may include:

  • Coordinating sustainability events with different campus departments
  • Presenting sustainability topics to tour groups and classes
  • Helping with data collection and reporting

These positions give you hands-on experience while supporting meaningful sustainability work at CCC.
