Advanced Manufacturing Training Series Section 1

Central Community College is offering an Advanced Manufacturing Series that provides a combination of lecture and hands-on learning to give students the foundational skills they need as a machinist. Section 1 will focus on these fundamentals:

Blueprint Reading, Jan. 12-14. Students will learn how to read and interpret industrial prints and become familiar with multi-view drawings, angles of projection, section views and thread callouts.

Precision Measuring, Jan. 20-21. Students will learn the proper use and application of precision measuring tools, such as calipers, micrometers and height gauges via hands-on practice. Common shop math and terminology also will be covered.

Manual Mill, Feb. 2-4 and Feb. 9-10. Students will learn the different functions of a vertical manual mill; how to properly align the machine, tool selection, speeds and feeds; and how to conduct themselves in a manner that keeps them and the equipment safe. Through hands-on machining exercises, they will make parts that will grow and test their skills.

Manual Lathe, Feb. 23-25 and March 2-3. Students will learn the different functions of a horizontal manual lathe; how to properly align the machine and work holding, tool selection, speeds and feeds; and how to conduct themselves in a manner that keeps them and the equipment safe. Through hands-on machining exercises, they will make parts that will grow and test their skills.
