Central Community College offers several short-term training courses related to subtractive manufacturing. These courses will prepare you to enter many high-paying jobs in the machining industry or help you advance in your current career. These classes are hands-on in our Advanced Manufacturing Machining lab and are based on real-world applications taught by industry experts.

This three-day workshop covers the reading and interpretation of blueprints for machining. This includes becoming familiar with concepts such as multi-view drawings, angles of projection, section views, thread callouts and much more.

This two-day workshop will teach the proper use of common precision measuring tools, including calipers and micrometers. Through precision measuring theory and hands-on practice, attendees will learn the proper use of various measuring tools and basic shop math and terminology.

  • Proper use of various measuring devices such as tape measures, steel rules, angle protractors, dial and digital calipers and micrometers, depth micrometers, dial indicators, depth gauges and many more.

This five-day workshop covers the basic usage and operation of a vertical manual mill. Attendees will learn the different functions of the mill controls, how to properly align the machine, tool selection, speeds and feeds and how to safely conduct themselves around the equipment, and then apply all these concepts through hands-on machining exercises.

Prerequisite: Blueprint Reading and Precision Measuring workshop completion OR an equivalent skillset derived from occupational experience.

This five-day workshop covers the basic usage and operation of a horizontal manual lathe. Attendees will learn the functions of the lathe controls, proper lathe setup, tool selection, speeds and feeds, and how to operate the equipment safely, and then apply these concepts through hands-on machining exercises.

Reviewing a CNC machine during class at CCC.This nine-day workshop covers several types of CNC programming, proper machine setup and operation, and safe conduct around the equipment. It provides attendees with the opportunity to gain confidence with CNC equipment through many hands-on machining exercises.
