Do you have a business idea you’re excited about? Big Idea Columbus is your chance to share it, grow it and possibly win funding to make it happen.
What Is Big Idea Columbus?
Big Idea Columbus is our version of Shark Tank.
Here’s how it works:
- You submit your idea ahead of time
- A panel reviews submissions and selects finalists
- Finalists pitch their ideas live
- Pitches are presented to an audience and a panel of judges
Your pitch must be two minutes or less. After your pitch, the judges will ask questions.
What Can You Win?
Top ideas receive:
- Access to business resources
- Discounts on professional services
- Business coaching and planning support
- Startup money to launch your idea in Columbus
The judges choose the top five ideas.
The audience chooses the top three cash prize winners.
What Ideas Are We Looking For?
We want ideas you are excited to pursue.
You can submit:
- A brand-new business idea
- An idea inspired by something you’ve seen elsewhere
- A product or service that could succeed in Columbus
If you are ready to take a chance, we want to hear from you.
Do You Need a Business Plan?
No. You do not need a full business plan.
- Your idea can be in the early stages
- Or your idea may be ready for launch

- Submission Window: September 1 – October 16, 2024, at midnight
- Event Date: Thursday, November 14, 2024

- Location: Columbus Innovation Center, 3211 14th St.
- Social Hour: 5:30 p.m.
- Pitches Begin: 6:30 p.m.
Who Can Submit?
You must be 19 years or older to submit an idea.
- If you are under 19 and your idea is selected, parent permission is required
- Students, community members, veterans, retirees and local entrepreneurs are encouraged to apply
What Types of Ideas Are Accepted?
All types of business ideas are welcome, including:
- Retail businesses
- Technology-based ideas
- Product inventions
- Food and beverage concepts
- Service-based businesses
If it can work in Columbus, you can submit it.
Are There Prizes?
Yes. Every finalist receives something. This may include:
- Gift bags
- Professional services
- Startup funding
The networking and connections you gain are just as valuable.
Can You Submit More Than One Idea?
Yes, you may submit more than one idea.
- You can only pitch one idea
- Judges will move only one idea forward per person
- Choose your strongest idea to submit
