Welcome to Central Community College’s 3C Initiative
Greetings! Welcome to Central Community College’s 3C Initiative page.
Here at CCC we are striving to be great stewards of our environment – for our students, community and the planet.
As a Cum Laude Leader and signatory of the Climate Commitment as part of the Climate Leadership Network (previously the ACUPCC), and as a signatory of the Sustainability Education & Economic Development (SEED) Initiative, we have made a commitment to educate, implement and model the practices needed for a sustainable future. For our communities and ultimately the world at large, we believe environmental sustainability is important and necessary for healthy communities, people and economic sustainability. At CCC we define environmental sustainability as meeting "the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs" (from the 1987 Brundtland report). Our environmental commitment supports our commitment to our students and their future.
Today’s economy and environmental challenges require employees to have a unique skill set – one in which they can meet the demands of their profession while being responsible stewards of our natural resources. CCC is working to meet these needs by building the educational programs (highlights include our e-badge awards, the Sustainability Leadership Presentation Series, and our 3C Intern Program)
and currently planning and setting action goals to measure their sustainability performance. Social and economic systems are built on the use of natural resources, ecosystem services…. our environment. We must manage these resources responsibly for all generations.
As a founding signatory of the Alliance for Resilient Campuses and an institution in the Campus Cleantech Pilots partnership, Central Community College knows that a sustainable environment will require adaptation, innovation, partnerships, and leadership.
We hope you join the CCC 3C Initiative, our collective efforts across the college to foster positive change and educate for a sustainable environment for everyone.
CCC is currently planning and setting action goals in education, energy, waste, and material use through The Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System™ (STARS). STARS is a transparent, self-reporting framework for colleges and universities to measure their sustainability performance.
Central Community College, Green Today...Greener Tomorrow.
