The Industrial Academy at the Grand Island Campus provides education in machine tool technology, welding and related topics for students from Grand Island Senior High School who are interested in preparing for careers in manufacturing.

The goal of the projectis to provide qualified employees for manufacturing industries in the Grand Island area. In addition to technical skills, students learn about leadership, teamwork and developing a good work ethic.

Topics covered in the program include:

  • Wire feed/production welding
  • Resistance projection (spot) welding
  • Plasma and oxy-fuel automated sheet cutting
  • Blueprint reading
  • Basic machining
  • Digital instruments and measurements
  • Computer numeric control (CNC) advanced machining
  • Programming and editing computer controlled cutting, welding and machining equipment
