Respiratory Care Technology

Respiratory Care practitioners are trained technical professionals with challenging and rewarding responsibilities in today’s health care system. Working under the direction of physicians, they evaluate, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders.

Most medical facilities need qualified respiratory care practitioners. Hospitals are the primary source for employment. In addition, nursing homes, clinics and home care programs are beginning to maintain respiratory care staff. Some opportunities for employment also are available in education, equipment sales and research laboratories.

In central Nebraska, students can complete an associate of applied science degree in respiratory care through through cooperative agreements with Southeast Community College and Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings. For more information, see the Transfer Agreements section of the catalog.
